How Will Solar Energy Affect the Oil Industry?
By Julian Benli Venter
Solar energy is not just an alternative to the expensive and pollutant sources of energy but really a solution that will soon see other sources of power closed and abandoned by many people. This clean and renewable source is today the most sought because of its benefits both to the environment and human life at large. Many people are already seeing solar power as the alternative to all other sources of energy. Other industries fear that this will affect their operations adversely. But just how will solar power affect the oil industry?
Solar energy has become a threat to the oil industry today. As the oil prices surge, solar power becomes a more beneficial source where power can be extracted. Compared to other sources of energy that compromises the environment, solar power is freely extracted by use of natural methods. The solar is only installed on the roofs of particular surfaces where light can be absorbed and changed into energy directly from the sun.
Renewable energy is surely the next generation's energy as arguably explained by environmentalists. Compared to other sources of energy, renewable energies can be used and be reused for years and many decades to come. Researches are still being carried out to confirm that indeed solar energy is still one of the cheapest and right renewable energy to use. It is also estimated that in near future, other sources of energy are likely to dwindle while the natural energy sources rise in use. But how will the solar energy affect the oil industry?
First, the solar energy is absolutely free. There are no charges for taping energy from the sun and using it to generate energy. This is a superior reason why many people choose this free source of energy because whereas oil has to be purchased daily or weekly solar energy is a once off investment. This energy is also clean and cannot pollute the environment or harm you in anyway like oil pollution. Pollution has been a major challenge in the environment today and its effects have far reaching consequences.
A clean form of energy would really be the best solution for this. The energy from the sun is also flexible in terms of people's needs and use of it. Normally, you can choose to use it when you want without worrying about bills. It saves on paying for the regular power sources.
Fossil fuels like oil are not renewable sources of energy. Once they are depleted, there are no ways in which they can be renewed. They pollute the environment and put our lives in danger since the products they use in generating this energy are generally risky and harmful. Extracting oil from the ground requires heavy machines and expertise in handling with process of extraction. Generally, the whole process is expensive from extraction of oil, refinery to purification.
This explanation shows the direct opposite of these sources of energy. A clear understanding is drawn from either the two. Solar energy is free, cheap, environmentally clean and easy to produce while use of oil in generating energy is expensive, pollutes the environment and very tedious. This conclusion infers a direct reason why the oil industry is soon closing as many people are already enjoying the stress-free solar energy.
